Organised annually by the European Commission, the European Maritime Day brings together maritime professionals, policymakers, researchers and innovators from across Europe. The 2025 edition provided a valuable opportunity to present the SMARTDEC project, engage with stakeholders, and introduce the SMARTDEC Community platform.

Showcasing the SMARTDEC Project

Stand 17, the SMARTDEC team presented its mission: supporting the decarbonisation of maritime transport in the Atlantic Area through collaborative innovation and pilot actions.

Most project partners were present on site, including:

Although not present in Cork, our partner Bilbao PortLab (ES) took part in the coordination meeting remotely.

Launch of the SMARTDEC Community Platform

A major milestone of the event was the public launch of the SMARTDEC Community platform, available at 🌐 smartdec-community.com

This online platform is designed to connect maritime stakeholders across the Atlantic Area — including start-ups, SMEs, port operators, researchers, policymakers and technology developers — all working towards maritime decarbonisation.

By joining the platform, users can:

  • Collaborate across sectors and build valuable partnerships
  • Access expert knowledge on maritime decarbonisation trends and policies
  • Contribute to a harmonised strategy for a sustainable maritime future
  • Discover innovative technologies that support the green transition
  • Be part of a dynamic, open ecosystem that fosters innovation and cross-border cooperation

Whether you’re developing a green maritime technology or looking for solutions, the SMARTDEC Community platform is here to connect you with the right partners and tools.

Steering Committee meeting in Cork

During the event, SMARTDEC partners also held their third Steering Committee meeting at the Metropolitan Hotel in Cork. The meeting was organised with the support of the Irish Maritime Development Office (IMDO), who kindly arranged the venue for the SMARTDEC partners. It provided an opportunity to review progress, coordinate efforts, and plan the next stages of the project.

Looking Ahead

With the strength of its partner network, the SMARTDEC project continues to advance the transition towards a more sustainable and resilient maritime future.

SMARTDEC’s presence at EMD 2025 marked an important step forward — not only by increasing the project’s visibility and strengthening partnerships, but also by reinforcing a shared commitment across the wider maritime sector.
