SMARTDEC Workshop in Portugal advances stakeholder dialogue on maritime decarbonisation
SMARTDEC’s Portuguese workshop gathered stakeholders to identify priorities and opportunities for maritime decarbonisation and inform future project recommendationAs part of SMARTDEC’s stakeholder engagement activities, partners in Portugal organised a national online workshop on 10 April 2026, bringing together maritime actors to exchange on priorities, challenges and opportunities linked to decarbonisation. Following workshops in France and Spain, this third national session contributes to the project’s ongoing stakeholder mapping work and future recommendations.
Fostering dialogue on maritime decarbonisation priorities
A central highlight of the workshop was the guest presentation by Daniel Maré Dias, Vertical Account Manager at Siemens Portugal – Transport, who shared concrete maritime decarbonisation initiatives and lessons learned from their implementation.
His contribution offered participants practical perspectives on strategic approaches, measurable outcomes and the transferability of solutions across operational and geographic contexts — a key dimension highlighted during the workshop..
Exploring priorities for the green maritime transition
Collective discussions addressed four priority themes for the sector’s transition, including financing, collaboration for innovation, regulatory alignment and digital readiness.
These exchanges helped identify opportunities and priorities that will contribute to SMARTDEC’s broader assessment work and future recommendations.
Feeding into SMARTDEC next steps
Insights gathered during the Portuguese workshop will contribute to project deliverables currently under development and support cooperation around maritime decarbonisation across the Atlantic Area.
